Video recordings act 1984, 2014
The video recordings act of 1984 states that films that are to be distributed and viewed by the public must follow set guidelines and rules in order to be deemed suitable for viewers, determined by the BBFC (British board of film classification) the film is given a suitable age rating and/or scenes that need to be altered in order for the film to reach the wanted age rating. The 2014 extension to this act covers the regulation of video and film distributed and viewed over the internet. |

The BBFC film categories in order from universal upwards U - Universal, suitable for all PG -Parental guidance, general viewing with parental discretion 12/12A - Suitable for 12, or 12 with an accompanying adult (over 18 y/o) 15 - Suitable for 15+ 18 - suitable for 18+ R18 - Only viewed in licenced premises, only supplied to adults in licenced sex shops Films are gives ratings depending on the different themes portrayed in the film |

Obscene publications act 1959
The Obscene publications act was passed to eliminate material that is deemed more than unsuitable for distribution, any publication featuring things such as realistic portrayal of rape, sex with animals.. If found distributing this type of material you could face jail time, along with the producers, directors and actors. |
